How to Activate Diagnostic Test Mode

Error codes can help you pinpoint the cause of your dryer’s malfunction.  Not all of the error codes below will be displayed during a regular dryer cycle.  To see all stored error codes for your Whirlpool Cabrio, you will need to do the following:

1. Be sure the dryer is in standby mode (plugged in with all indicators off, or with only the Clothes Dry indicator on).

2. Select any one button (except Pause/Cancel) and follow the steps below, using the same button (remember the button):

Press/Hold 2 – 5 seconds > Press/Hold 2 – 5 seconds > Press/Hold 2 – 5 seconds > Press/Hold 2 – 5 seconds > Press/Hold 2 – 5 seconds

PFPower FailurePF flashes to indicate that a power failure occurred while the dryer was running. Press START to continue the cycle, or press PAUSE/CANCEL to clear the display.
AFRestricted Airflow ConditionAF flashes if a restricted airflow condition exists. Check to make sure the lint screen is clean, the door seal is in place and the vent is not obstructed.
F-01Primary Control FailureF-01 flashes when there is a primary control failure See Accessing & Removing the Electronic Assemblies.
F-02Keypad/User Interface FailureF-02 flashes when there is a stuck button or user interface mismatch. This fault code will ONLY interface mismatch. This fault code will ONLYappear when in the diagnostic test mode. appear when in the diagnostic test mode. See TEST #6.
F-20Heater Failure #1F-20 flashes when there is a heater 1 failure. See TEST #4.

F-22Exhaust Thermistor OpenF-22 flashes if the exhaust thermistor is open. See test #4a.
F-23Exhaust Thermistor ShortedF-23 flashes if the exhaust thermistor has shorted. See TEST #4a.
F-24Inlet Thermistor OpenF-24 flashes if the inlet thermistor is open. This fault code will ONLY appear when in the diagnostic test mode. See TEST #4a.
F-25Inlet Thermistor ShortedF-25 flashes if the inlet thermistor is shorted. This fault code will ONLY appear when in the diagnostic test mode. See TEST #4a.
F-26Motor Drive System FailureF-26 flashes if there is a motor drive system failure. See TEST #3.
F-28Moisture Sensor OpenF-28 flashes if the moisture sensor strip is open. This fault code will ONLY appear when in the diagnostic test mode. See TEST #5.
F-29Moisture Sensor ShortedF-29 flashes if the moisture sensor strip has shorted. This fault code will ONLY appear when in the diagnostic test mode. See TEST #5.
